Shane Lafreniere
What is your role and what do you do?
I’m a seasoned presales ‘Solution Architect’ or as they say south of the border… “Sales Engineer”. In combination with the Account Representatives, we craft software solutions for enterprise and government clients which includes security software, strange cyber solutions, and also address unique solutions like commercial solutions for classified (CSfC).
Can you tell us a little about your background and what led you to PureLogic IT?
A Mechanical Engineer by schooling, I’ve been in the IT industry my entire working life and predominantly in the software space. I started in networking and service management for the local major telecommunications provider here in Canada. Over my career, I was a ‘Chief Architect’ across the product portfolio that would stitch together multi-product/multi-year long projects. I joined PL (PureLogic) in 2017. I came with what I thought, was a full software “toolbox”. Since joining, I have added to that toolbox allowing me to craft solutions, rather than just use one product with one vendor. As a result, I can look into competing solutions, find the unique value-add and then stitch it together with other hardware/software/cyber solutions into meeting the needs of the challenging client. I love my job!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
During the winter I referee hockey, and in the summer, I motorcycle, bike, SUP, and run. I am also an airplane fanatic! I fly remote control planes.
What do you see as the next big shift in technology in the industry?
I think we are going to have to combat a way to deal with the Facebooks of the world. We have been giving away our data for free – personally and professionally. We need to take back ownership of our data. Think of it as personal ‘Supply Chain’ management.
What does PureLogic do differently from other companies?
We have multiple vendors, suppliers, OEMs. We don’t pitch just one. We sit down and understand our clients’ problems, suggest multiple solutions and a path to procurement.
What is your biggest work accomplishment to date?
Getting everybody to finally understand what a container really is!
What advice do you have for any young IT professionals?
Think, listen, and question before you say something. Understand the problem fully and don’t jump to conclusions.
What new skills have you developed in the last year?
The ability to manage 3 screens, 2 audios, and 5 different video conference platforms from the same laptop during COVID. It’s a skill!
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
It’s something different every day… and the people. The journey with the PL family.
