PureLogic has some impressive employees in our ranks and we want to show them off to the world. Our #EmployeeSpotlight series is where we get up-close and personal with our team. Next on our list is Tyler O’Brien from the Inside Sales Team.
Since joining the company a year and a half ago, Tyler has worked on multiple projects with the account reps and helped streamline the quoting process. We talked with him about his favourite project, the next shift in IT and his last life as a rock star. Find out more…
Tyler O’Brien
Can you tell us a little about your background and what led you to PureLogic IT?
I’ve been in the IT industry for 12 years. Most of those years were spent at the distribution level and working with a couple of resellers. In fact, I supported PureLogic for many years, which is where I grew to love the company and the way it was managed. For 6+ years I developed a great relationship with their team from the distribution side. No matter who you ask the PureLogic team is just full of great people.
What is your role and what does a typical day look like?
As Inside Sales, we support our amazing outside team. Day to day activities include everything from quoting to dealing with vendor partners and distribution. We support the team as a whole.
The ISR role is fluid. Sometimes we are not involved till the end of the sales cycle when they need pricing, other times we are there right from the beginning, working with the Account Managers, SEs and vendor(s) to create a solution out of many different moving parts.
What does PureLogic do differently from other companies?
We support and help our clients from start to finish with multiple different vendor lines and crafting unique solutions. We help our clients get to their final goal and outcome. We do everything with pride, teamwork, and a family mentality. We treat customers and each other like family.
What is PureLogic doing to help with limited supply and longer than normal lead times?
That is my life right now. Hardware shortages are rough, and everything is delayed. PL is proactively working with the vendors to find alternatives. Switching things, changing configurations, working with clients to find products. Otherwise, we are helping our clients procure Software that can be invoiced overnight! (Check out our Software PowerBook – over 80 quotes, ready to order!)
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Most of my time is spent with my wife and son. We go on adventures and show him the world. I have a strong love-hate relationship with golf. I also love to mountain bike which helps me relieve stress! This year I will be trying my hand at Road Biking (Cycling) and will be trying my best to finish the ride with the PureLogic Team in the Wounded Warriors Canada 120km Ride for Mental Health.
What do you see as the next big shift in technology?
With the world where it is today and what is currently happening, I think the focus is going to shift to IT security and how to protect yourself.
What do you think makes a good employee?
A valued employee. Someone that feels valued and cared about. They are going to work harder and better than someone who is not valued. I feel very valued at PL. I want to always do my best day in and day out.
What is your biggest work accomplishment to date?
Surviving my first Government Year-End with the PureLogic team!! Also watching and helping the ISR team grow and be more efficient to make our jobs less stressful.
What has been your favourite project so far?
A new automated quote tool that we’ve implemented internally on the ISR side. The results are huge as we are saving so much time!
What new skills have you developed in the last year?
Managing life and family at the same time. I haven’t mastered it, but it’s gotten a little easier. It was really difficult during Covid. It has shaped me into a better person coming out of it.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I used to be really into music. I play the guitar and was in a band that played at different venues. Rock & Roll – AC/DC, Led Zeppelin – I learned a lot from it.
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
My family. The people I work with and the path that we are all on together. How family-oriented PL is and how much we are valued and respected. I couldn’t be happier!
